Anti Static Agent 1800

Product Code: PPA 1800 ,Equivalent to Armostat 1800

1. General Information

Anti-static Agent 1800 is a chemical additive designed to reduce or eliminate static electricity buildup in synthetic fibers, plastics, films, and other materials prone to static charge accumulation. It is commonly used in industries such as textiles, packaging, electronics, and polymer processing.

2. Chemical Properties

Chemical Name: Octadecyl bis(2-hydroxyethyl) alkyl amine

Apperance : White or slightly yellow solid

Tertiary amine content,% :Min 97

Moisture,% : Max 0.5

3. Chemical Reactivity and Stability

Stability: Boasts excellent thermal stability due to its saturated alkyl chain. It can withstand high processing temperatures without significant degradation, making it particularly suitable for applications that require high – temperature processing, such as extrusion and injection molding of certain polymers

Reaction Mechanism: As an internal anti static additive, it migrates to the surface of the polymer during processing. Once at the surface, it forms a thin, conductive layer. This layer enables the dissipation of static charges that accumulate on the material. The mechanism involves the movement of ions within the conductive layer, which neutralizes the static charge build – up, preventing the attraction of dust, particles, and potential electrostatic discharge.

4. Applications

Polymer Industry

Polyethylene (PE) and Linear Low – Density Polyethylene (LLDPE): In the production of PE and LLDPE films, sheets, and containers, Anti Static Agent 1800 effectively reduces static charge accumulation. This is crucial for preventing dust adhesion and improving the handling and packaging of products.

Polypropylene (PP): In PP products such as injection – molded parts, fibers, and automotive components, the agent helps to eliminate static electricity. This not only improves the surface finish of the parts but also reduces the risk of damage to sensitive components during manufacturing and use.

Styrene – Acrylonitrile (SAN) and Acrylonitrile – Butadiene – Styrene (ABS): In SAN and ABS plastics, commonly used in electronics housings, consumer goods, and industrial equipment, Anti Static Agent 1800 provides long – lasting antistatic protection. It helps to prevent electrostatic discharge from damaging internal electronic components and improves the overall performance and lifespan of the products.

Textile Industry

Synthetic Fibers: When added to synthetic fibers like polyester, nylon, and acrylic, it makes the fibers less prone to static cling. This is especially important for clothing, as static cling can cause discomfort to the wearer and make the fabric attract lint and hair. In industrial textiles such as conveyor belts and filtration fabrics, the antistatic properties ensure smooth operation and prevent the accumulation of dust and debris, which could affect the performance of the equipment.

Electronics Industry

Electronic Components: In the production of electronic components such as printed circuit boards (PCBs), integrated circuits (ICs), and semiconductor devices, Anti Static Agent 1800 is used to protect the sensitive components from electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD can cause damage to these components, leading to malfunctions or complete failure. By reducing static charges in the manufacturing environment and on the components themselves, it helps to improve the yield and reliability of electronic products.

Electronic Equipment Housing: The agent is also incorporated into the plastic housings of electronic equipment, such as computers, smartphones, and televisions. This not only protects the internal components from ESD but also provides a more pleasant user experience by preventing static – related issues like the attraction of dust to the device’s surface.

5. Usage and Dosage

Usage: It can be added directly to the polymer during the compounding process. For best results, it is recommended to pre – mix it with the polymer or use a masterbatch containing the antistatic agent. This ensures uniform distribution throughout the material, maximizing its antistatic effectiveness. In some cases, it can also be used in combination with other additives such as antioxidants and lubricants to enhance the overall performance of the final product.

Dosage: The optimal dosage varies depending on the specific application, the type of polymer, and the desired level of antistatic performance. As a general guideline, the recommended dosage of Anti static agent 1800 for PE is 0.10 – 0.40% by weight, for PP it is 0.15 – 0.80% by weight, and for ABS, it is 1.0 – 3.0% by weight. However, it is advisable to conduct preliminary tests to determine the exact dosage required for each specific application.

6. Advantages

High – Efficiency: Even at low dosage levels, it can significantly reduce static charge accumulation, providing effective and long – lasting antistatic protection. This makes it a cost – effective solution as less of the agent is needed to achieve the desired results.

Good Compatibility: Antistatic agent 1800 is Compatible with a wide range of polymers, making it a versatile choice for different industries. It can be easily incorporated into various plastic and textile materials without causing compatibility issues or affecting the physical properties of the base materials.

Thermal Stability: Its excellent thermal stability allows it to maintain its antistatic properties during high – temperature processing, which is essential for many manufacturing processes. This ensures that the final product has consistent antistatic performance, regardless of the processing conditions.

Semi – Permanent Effect: Antistatic agent 1800 provides a semi – permanent antistatic effect, meaning that it continues to work over an extended period. This is in contrast to some other antistatic agents that may have a short – lived effect and require frequent re – application.

7. Handling and Safety

Personal Protective Equipment: When handling Anti Static Agent 1800, it is recommended to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves, safety glasses, and a dust mask.

Ventilation: Ensure good ventilation in the handling area, especially when working with large quantities or during the heating and dosing process.

8. Packaging and Storage

Packaging: Usually packed in 180 – kg steel drums, with 720 kg per pallet.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry, and well – ventilated warehouse. Keep it separate from acids and alkalis. Also, keep it far away from fire sources, and avoid exposure to water, humidity, and sunlight during transport and storage. Under proper storage conditions, it has a shelf – life of 2 years from the date of manufacture.
